My Story

It's nice to meet you

I am from Alberta, Canada and I’ve lived in Lima, Peru for two and a half years but have worked here for six years doing archaeology and completing my master’s degree in archaeology and heritage with the University of Leicester in England. I completed my bachelor’s degree in anthropology at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Canada where I focused on Peruvian archaeology and linguistics. Although I have a strong love for the ancient world that Peru has to offer, my other passion is teaching English. With my background in linguistic anthropology, I have learned the different phonetic sounds that different cultures make, specifically in Latin American countries. I have five years of professional experience from Mount Royal University in Calgary, Canada and have taught English to Chinese and Latin American students for four years.

When I was growing up, I was in a French school where I had to learn the language as a small child until I graduated university. Growing up, I learned how much of an advantage it was for me to know a second language for any job I applied for. However, I was never the only person applying with a second language, there were always stronger candidates because their French was frankly stronger than mine, or it was their first language. I had to seek more tools and mentors who could help me stand out and sound more native in French so that I could have a bigger advantage against my competitors.

And it worked! I got my first “real” job at Mount Royal University one day after graduation advising prospective students with their academic plans and I was able to effectively help all French speaking students.

So why am I telling you my French story when you are here to learn English? With my experience learning an advanced level of another language, combined with my anthropological linguistics training, teaching experience, and my native tongue in English, I have the tools and knowledge to help you strengthen your English goals that will give you better career opportunities!

I've been there, It's hard to Learn Another Language Without Support
